On January 24, 2026, North Mississippi got hit with an ice storm. The extended forecast showed rain. The rain turned into a chance of snow. Five days out, the snow chance became 3" on Friday and 8" on Saturday. Three days out, it became an imminent disaster with 1-1/2" of ice expected in our area. Of course, supplies
quickly became scarce as everyone over-bought in the final few days. Local stores issued "no returns" on generators, as the last expected storm (2023) spiked generator sales only to have them all returned a few days later.
We were prepared to survive, but improvements are necessary to be more comfortable. Our forest got hammered, and it looks way worse in the
present time with all of the ice gone. More on the aftermath in another video. This video is how the ice storm played out for us.
