I have great friends. I really do. My buddy Nathan surprised us with a pair of plum trees, and the timing couldn't be mo-betta (that's southern for more better, which means really good. I love the southern vernacular.)
We immediately knew where to put them: in the chicken run. In a few years, when they are fully established and producing fruit, the fruit will fall to the chickens below, and the tree itself will provide shade. I imagine the first day, driving up the driveway to the view of two plum trees in full bloom, will be special.
And with
garden 2.0 in the beginning stages, garden 1.0, AKA the impossible garden, can be decommissioned. We reused the T-posts and chicken wire to protect the trees from both the eventual chickens and our dogs, who are borderline feral. They eat trees for some reason.
